Curam Australia contains amoxicillin as its main component. Amoxicillin belongs to an antibiotic group of drugs, which is called penicillin and its main function is to fight bacteria in the human body. Clavulanate potassium is another constituent of Curam Australia. It represents a special form of clavulanic acid, which has similarities with penicillin. The main function of clavulanate potassium is to fight bacteria, which is resistant to penicillin and other types of antibiotics. The combination of amoxicillin with clavulanate potassium is an effective treatment from many diversified infections, which can be caused by bacteria (e.g. sinusitis, ear infections, pneumonia, urinary tract infections, bronchitis as well as skin infections).

Curam Australia has different indications based on volume:

  • Tablets (375 mg and 625 mg) and Suspension are used for treatment of infections related to skin & soft tissues, as well as infections of genito-urinary tract.
  • Tablet (375 mg and 625 mg) and Suspension (156.25 mg/5 mL & 312.5 mg/5 mL) are applicable for treatment of such infections as septicaemia, osteomyelitis, post-operative infections, peritonitis and others.
  • Vial (600mg) assists in treatment of abdominal infections, respiratory tract infections, genital infections, kidney & urinary tract infections, generalised infections (sepsis and peritonitis), skin and soft tissue infections.
  • Vial (1200 mg) is suitable for treatment of adults and children, who suffer from severe infections of the ears, throat and nose (e.g. mastoiditis, epiglottitis, peritonsillar infections and sinusitis). It is also effective in case of chronic bronchitis exacerbations, community acquired pneumonia, pyelonephritis, cystitis etc. The following skin and soft tissue infections can also be treated with Curam Australia: cellulitis, severe dental abscess, animal bites, infections of bones and joints (e.g. osteomyelitis, female genital infections, intra-abdominal infections etc.).

Side Effects

Due to diversified constituents available in Curam Australia, it may cause some side effects during application. Hereby, do not hesitate to get an instant emergency medical help in case, if you experience any of the signs of an allergic reaction: difficulties in breathing, hives, swelling of your lips, tongue, face or throat etc.

Please, stop immediately taking Curam Australia if you notice any of side effects listed below:

  • Diarrhoea, which is watery or contains blood;
  • Pale or yellowish skin, dark colour of urine, severe fever, weakness and/or confusion;
  • Easy bleeding or bruising on body parts;
  • Skin rash, severe tingling, muscle pain and/or weakness, numbness;
  • confusion, agitation, strange thoughts or behaviour, seizure and/or convulsions;
  • upper abdominal pain, nausea, loss of appetite, itchiness, clay-coloured stools, jaundice (yellowing of eyes or skin);
  • severe skin reactions –sore throat, fever, swelling of face and/or tongue, burning eyes, red or purple skin rash accompanied by pain and blistering/peeling.

Precautions

Make sure you are not hypersensitive to clavulanic acid, amoxicillin, penicillin or other constituents of Curam Australia. In addition, please ensure you are not hypersensitive (e.g. anaphylaxis) to other β-lactams, such as carbapenem, cephalosporins or monobactam.

Animal-reproduction studies have shown no foetal risk. However, there are no controlled studies conducted among pregnant women or animal-reproduction studies, which have shown an adverse effect (other than fertility decrease).
